It’s hard to believe, but it’s true… Halo Resourcing is turning 7!

Seven years of helping businesses find the perfect candidates for their vacancies, seven years of watching careers grow, and seven years of learning some invaluable lessons along the way!

As we celebrate our birthday, we’ve asked Halo’s Directors, Amanda and Arran to take a moment to reflect on the journey and share some of their key learnings that have shaped the way we do recruitment.  At 7 years old, here are 7 things we’ve learned about recruiting for our clients.

1) People are not commodities. We bang on about this a lot, but as recruiters what we actually ‘sell’ is something which isn’t tangible. People change their minds, a lot. And that is ok -We want people to make the best choices for themselves and their lives, even if it means we don’t get that placement.

2) You get out what you put in. This is no normal 9-5 and you need to be willing to go the extra mile. You can’t get away with doing the bare minimum – especially in the current climate, you are as busy as you make yourself and you need to have the drive every single day to make it work.

3) You can’t just think that everyone operates in the same way – especially if you have a big temp desk. Not everyone is reliable and we have heard some pretty outlandish excuses to get out of work on a Monday morning.

4) Recruitment is all about balance – and hiring manager engagement is just as important as candidate engagement. Essentially you need to be 50/50 in your time towards both and the harder you work the luckier you get.

5) Don’t count your eggs before they’ve hatched – Even when you are 1000% sure the candidate is the one and they have accepted, nothing is guaranteed until their first day… and even then they might leave!

6) Recruitment is hard, but if you love it that won’t matter! It’s an emotional rollercoaster daily – the highs lows and everything in between and 99% of these highs and lows are completely out of your control.

7) Never underestimate how many family members people have – or broken down cars or missed buses! All jokes aside, never assume people who have regular issues with getting to work are lying – Although 17 years of recruiting temps definitely raise some eyebrows with reasons why people can’t get to work again, but not everyone is bending the truth and some people do just have a string of bad luck. Never assume you know the truth because it seems a little ‘off’.
